Harvey Clark, known as The Trout Man, offers very reasonably priced fly fishing tuition and charters for beginners, backbackers, budget travellers, families and senior citizens. Harvey is a very experienced and knowledgeable angler committed to passing on his love of fishing.
The Trout Man, tailors tuition trips for ages 9 to 90 and teaches many senior citizens. He also introduces women to flycasting and young children to spin-fishing. All tackle is provided.
The Trout Man, is based at Waiteti Trout Stream Holiday Park which has direct access by water or pathway to Lake Rotorua just 200 metres away. A range of accommodation from $22 to $120 a night can be arranged through The Trout Man.
Waiteti Trout Stream Holiday Park
Nestled on the banks of the famous Waiteti Trout Fishing Stream, this unique Rotorua Holiday Park is set in 2 acres of mature trees and gardens and offers you a peaceful setting for your holiday. Choose from our great range of tent sites, powered sites, kitchen cabins, or park motel units.
All tackle is provided but you need to purchase a fishing licence (available from the camp store). A fish preparation area and fish smoker are also available.

3 hours of flycasting tuition and fishing $55 for 1 person, $75 for 2 people

4 hours of flycasting tuition and fishing $75 for 1 person, $95 for 2 people
- Sunset/Sunrise Tuition Trip:
In popular demand. Two hours tuition and fishing till dusk and four hours at dawn $110, two people $125.

A day out around the local fishing spots $120, two people $135.

Learn the ultimate form of trout fishing, the dry fly, on a back country river over two days. Approximately:
$275 for 1 person, $300 for 2 (includes overnight accommodation)

Learn to fish at night when the big fish strike. From 8p.m. till midnight $90 for 1 person or $110 for 2
- An introduction to Fly fishing:
Two or three-day tuition trips by arrangement. Learn to flycast with nymph, wet fly , dry fly and night fly, lake and river, plus flytying instruction. Two days $240, two people $265. Three days $300, two people $325.
- Beginners Special:
Nine hours tuition and fishing spread over three days, plus flytying instructions $135, two people $160.
- Father/Son Special:
Two or three days tuition and fishing by arrandment, focusing on flyfishing techniques, learning where to go and what to do, plus flytying instruction 2 days $265, 3 days $325
- Mother/Daughter Discount Special:
One to three days of tuition, fishing, fly tying instructions, sightseeing, relaxing and shopping. one day $110, two days $200, three days $250.
- Kayak:
Fishing kayak and tackle, two hours $30, half-day $45 ($150 bond required).
- For the Table:
The Trout Man will clean, prepare and smoke your fish - eat it hot off the smoker, $10.
