Famous for its natural hot springs, Te Aroha is home to world’s only hot soda water geyser.

As you enter the Domain grounds take a few minutes to marvel at the Soda Water geyser. Sprouting around 4 meters into the air every 40 minutes, this geyser is a spectacular reminder of the unique and natural source of health giving water that extends deep below the forested mountain.

For over a century visitors to the area have refreshed themselves with a cool Soda Spring drink from our ornate drinking fountain that takes its water directly from the source. Try some yourself, it’s cool and refreshing and you’ll feel better immediately just for the experience these benevolent waters offer.

Whether you’re seeking soothing relief from everyday aches and pains, an aromatic hydrotherapy to relieve stress, or simply a place to relax in natural surroundings, Te Aroha Mineral Pools provides the perfect retreat.

Within the beautifully restored Edwardian Domain are the Te Aroha Mineral Spas, the Te Aroha Leisure Pools, and the 1898 Cadman Bath House, which now houses the Te Aroha and Districts Museum.

TE AROHA MINERAL SPAS

Be the first to enter the waters of your own soda spa pool set in this most modern replica of an Edwardian bath house.
Te Aroha Mineral Spas
Choose a luxurious soda spring spa fresh from the mountain spring. Luxuriate in the silky smoothness of these therapeutic waters as they caress your skin. Flick on the pump and invigorate your muscles with an aquatic massage of bubbling air while you enjoy the timeless luxury and ambience from your kauri tub.

Genuine alpine style opening skylights provide light and air when desired. Relax in your own wooden tub, lie back in the still, clear soda spring waters or revitalise your senses with specially chosen aromatherapy oils in a stainless steel pool.

Each pool’s soda spa water is replenished ensuring your water is fresh and just for you.

Or indulge your senses with an exquisite aroma therapy bath using soothing oils and gentle aromas to infiltrate your senses and leave you feeling completely at ease.

Add your chosen oils to one of the two freshly filled old-fashioned claw-foot slipper baths, which are side by side, enabling you to bathe with a friend or loved one while enjoying your own temperature and chosen oil, then slip into a state of total relaxation and rejuvenation.

Beyond the traditional Bath House is a thermal outdoor pool area with a range of pools in a beautiful rock garden setting. It’s ideal for families and children to enjoy summer and winter.

TE AROHA LEISURE POOLS
Te Aroha Mineral Spas

  • Main Pool
We have a 20m outdoor pool that is heated to 31.2 degrees in summer and 33.5 in winter - that's not too cold to get into, but not too hot for a good workout!

This pool is always supervised by qualified lifeguards, and has a lift for disabled access to and from the pool.

  • Toddler's Pool
The toddlers pool is ideal for kids of any age - with a sloped floor it means young ones can safely play in the water without getting out of their depth. This pool is slightly warmer than the main pool, heated to 33.2 degrees in summer and 35.5 in winter. This pool is supervised by lifeguards, but we ask for parents to stay within arm's reach of their children at all times.

  • Spa
Our spa is kept maintained at 38 degrees - the ideal temperature for a relaxing soak (especially after a walk on one of the many surrounding tracks).

Please note the spa is closed for cleaning from 12 noon on Tuesdays

  • Qualified lifeguards
All of our pools are supervised by qualified lifeguards. Many of our lifeguards also have higher qualifications in recreation and aquatics and can help advise you on swimming training or rehabilitation.

In Te Aroha the mountain backdrop provides a range of activities for the explorer, from walking and tramping tracks to mountain biking, or for the less adventurous, the township offers a range of unique shops and some excellent cafes and bars or simply relax and enjoy the stunning environment, surrounded by serene bush.

Take a heritage trail and learn more about the town’s rich history, and some of the buildings and structures that give the town such unique character.

Just out of town, the Kopuatai Peat Dome is the only true peat dome/restaid bog remaining intact in New Zealand. As well as the largest remaining freshwater wetland left in the North Island, it is the best example of its kind in New Zealand, and supports a vegetation type unique to the world.
