NZAA and AMS have combined their respective tourism marketing, guide and web operations into a partnership that will trade in Australia under the name AAA Tourism and in New Zealand under the name AA Tourism.

A key component of the new partnership’s overall marketing strategy will be to publish  a range of tourist accommodation guides, maps and websites which deliver targeted travel information to the 7.7 million members of New Zealand and Australian motoring clubs.

NZAA's Peter Blackwell is CEO of the new partnership which is governed by a partnership committee. This includes two Australian and two New Zealand representatives - Ian Stone, CEO of RAA, Michael Reed CEO of AMS, Brian Gibbons, CEO of NZAA and Peter Moxon GM NZAA Club Operations.

Peter Blackwell said the deal gives AA access to the 6.5 million Australian Automobile Club members to whom it would be able to market New Zealand and sell its guides.

For Australian Automobile Club members, the partnership will mean all club Tourism Publications will be free from 2010.

Autoclub members will now be able to access a broader range of travel options and booking methods from trusted sources.

In 2007 the New Zealand Automobile Association acquired in-car navigation and mapping technology provider GeoSmart. The move dramatically increased the size of the AA original mapping capacity.

AA is also joint owner of Qualmark. The first New Zealand Qualmark guide identifies quality assured accommodation option through a star grading. Tourism New Zealand plans international distribution. Qualmark Green enviro-logos combined with star rating and endorsement logos are also in the business plan.
