Queensland caravan & camping show draws 78,236 to budget holidays in Australia Coromal poptop with Real-Ezy folding trailer |
Queensland Caravan, Camping and Touring Holiday Show drew 78,236 people. Up to 19,000 people a day generated an estimated $40 million in sales for the touring holiday industry in Australia.
Tourism bodies report many show visitors plan their next holiday in Australia, show organisers said today.
Caravanning Queensland CEO Ron Chapman said the strong attendance had translated into strong sales for exhibitors.
"The highest attendance was on the long weekend when up to 19,000 people per day visited the show. Of the 78,236 people who visited the show, we had people from across Queensland, and from across Australia, converge on Brisbane as this is the nation’s largest caravan show," he said.
"Importantly, visitors didn’t just look at camper trailers, motorhomes, caravans and travel accessories, but many bought as well. Tourism bodies at the show also reported that many visitors were actively planning their next holiday in Australia".
"Touring holidays are no longer just for Grey Nomads. They are now a popular holiday choice for couples and families as they are fun, affordable, and give you the freedom to discover new places. In fact this year, the number of at families visiting and buying at the show markedly increased".
"A popular choice that doesn’t break the bank, touring holidays are relaxing and much more economical than other holiday types, with lower accommodation, entertainment and food costs".
Australian swimming champion Dawn Fraser and country singer Tania Kernaghan appeared at this year’s Queensland Caravan, Camping and Touring Holiday Show, and illustrated the broad appeal of Australian touring holidays.
Olympic champion Dawn Fraser, was at the Winnebago stand signing autographs on the opening day, Wednesday 3 June.

Dawn won two more gold medals at the 1958 Commonwealth Games in Cardiff, Wales, and another gold at the Rome Olympics in 1960 for the 100 metres freestyle. At the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games Opening Ceremony, Dawn was honoured by the Atlanta Olympic Organising Committee as one of seven greatest athletes of all time and also carried the Olympic torch on its way to the main stadium.
At the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, Juan Antonio Samaranch, President of the International Olympic Committee made Dawn, First Lady of the Olympic games partnering him to the Opening Ceremony in which she was one of seven Australian women to run with the Torch in the main Stadium. She also was the Attaché to the Australian Olympic Team in 2000. She remains one of Australia’s best-loved identities.

Tania Kernaghan |
In 1993 Tania Kernaghan caught the attention of ABC Country and released her first single, “I’ll Be Gone”, which was co-written by her younger sister Fiona and featured Keith Urban on guitar.
She officially signed with ABC Country in 1995 and in January 1996 delivered the triumphant debut, “December Moon”. The album went platinum, spawned a massive six hit singles and earned Tania three Golden Guitars.
